This is funky defined. Tucked away in a little crossroads at the miniature village of Buscatell this cafe has a huge selection of homemade tapas with everything from the traditional to the outright experimental. Owned and operated by a local Ibicenco family, the space is also a gallery showing some excellent works by local and international artists. Also watch out for the live music schedule. Take note: it’s hard to choose between the excellent wine list, the amazing cocktails or the specialist gins.
Can Cosmi, Santa Agnes
From the outside you may think it’s a little… well, old fashioned. But be assured Can Cosmi serves the best tortilla you will ever have. Bar none. It’s a big call to make but we stand by our word. There is nothing fancy about this Ibiza institution and that’s just the way we like it – all the love goes into the food. Afterwards, a stroll amongst the almond groves is a good way to digest all those delectable tapas plates.
Destino, San Jose and Santa Gertrudis
Not to be confused with the Pacha owned resort (also a great place to eat, by the way) this tapas bar has been pumping out classic and unique tapas to an in-the-know clientele for quite some time. In San Jose, the original restaurant is opposite the picturesque church – try to nab the best seats in the courtyard. The Santa Gertrudis location is just as good as the original. The traditional dishes are executed with precision while the modern twist on Spanish, Moorish and Asian flavours makes your taste buds explode. Go in a group so you can order more!
La Bodega, Ibiza town
George was pretty excited many years ago when he noticed a couple of cool looking guys starting to renovate this architectural gem tucked under the drawbridge of the famous old town, right near the Mercado Viejo (old market). As soon as they opened their doors La Bodega became a must do on the Ibiza food list and has been buzzing night after night ever since. The interior is reminiscent of a romantic era novel and the outdoor tables have a front row view of the ancient walls of Dalt Vila. The tapas is sublime, the wine list excellent and if you’re a whiskey lover you’ll have found your island home.
This is the place to take people who are as much into design as they are food. Run by Catalan couple Esther and Pere, situated along the iconic Vara del Rey this modern tapas bar (Ibiza’s very first gastro bar) aims to provide haute cuisine at affordable prices. The bright, contemporary interior is reflected in the menu, which twists and turns on traditional flavours creating new taste sensations. Even the dessert menu is served tapas style. One word of advice: go on an empty stomach so you can fit more in.
