From the hippies of Benirras to the poseurs at Cala Jondal, the small island is big enough to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of tourists who descend on the island each year.
In order to experience the wide variety that the island has to offer, it is vital to hire a car or moped in order to whizz around the island and take in the different sides of the island. From a central inland spot such as Santa Gertrudis, you can be at any point on the island within 25 minutes. The rugged north has some fantastic beaches to offer with Cala San Vicente ideally suited for families with its large safe beach and sandy sea bed along with several hotels situated behind the beach. For those looking for a smaller cove, Cala Xarraca located near to Portinatx is a lovely cove with crystal clear waters and a particularly good spot for snorkelling. The town of Portinatx is also a good option for a family holiday as it is a safe resort for young children with several hotels such as the Club Hotel Portinatx which is known for its excellent all inclusive offering.
For the young, thin and beautiful there are some particular hotspots. In the far south of the island is Las Salinas which is a large long sandy beach that comes alive during the high summer months with those looking to pose, hang out and chat with the club reps working the beach to promote that night’s party. Located slightly further north of Las Salinas is the fantastic cove of Cala Jondal. At Cala Jondal there are options to suit different types of beach goers. For those looking for to be seen, the world famous Blue Marlin serves as a hub for those who love wearing heels in the sand who stand up and then down again, whilst towards the east of the beach is a perfect place to chill out whilst listening to the Blue Marlin’s tunes at a peaceful hum.
One beach that seems never to be taken over by a beach club that are cropping up over the island is Benirras beach located in the north-east of the island. The lovely cove serves as a base for hippies who hang out and play their drums on Sunday evenings as the sun goes down. During the rest of the week Benirras is a great spot for snorkelling, eating and recovering from the excesses of the previous evening.
So take a flight with someone you want to impress, hire a car and take in as much as you can, you won’t regret a trip to Ibiza’s beaches.
