Once one of the poorest of the Greek islands, Mykonos’ transformation from little known secret to star of the Cyclades is a success story every bit as heart-warming as the iconic movie, and is visited by valentines from across the globe every year. Both Delos Islet and Mykonos Town boast great museums highlighting the island’s history and culture, including the famous piece of Greek mythology which tells of the battle between Zeus and the fearsome Titans. Needless to say, wherever you are in Mykonos, you’re never far from a beach but it’s worth to make a special trip to Paradise or the Kalafáti coves which offer unparalleled beauty and informal water sports.

Although Mykonos is perfect during the spring months, avoid visiting after September when many of the bars, restaurants and shops close for the winter months and the flies and hornets move in.
