Similarly to much of South-East Asia, the peak tourist season tends to run from December to mid-April, when the weather in the south is at its finest. While this period may offer the best climate, there are benefits of travelling a little earlier or a little later. Clear blue skies can be expected in both late November and late April but there is the added reward of lower visitor numbers, when the beaches are quieter and Sri Lanka becomes your own private paradise.
Planning is paramount: if you plan on using a luxury beachfront villa as a haven from which to explore the sights of Sri Lanka, you are best advised to check your destination’s weather to ensure sunshine. While the impressive Adam’s Peak may be just a four-hour drive in-land from Tangalle’s stunning beaches, it may be experiencing completely different weather, meaning you’d be better off changing your plans and trying again another day. But these last minute tweaks and changes to your itinerary can be viewed as one of the charming highlights of visiting Sri Lanka, where every day brings a new surprise.
