Ibiza: Shop it like it’s hot

"Our guests always ask me where to shop in Ibiza,” says Dynamic Lives general manager Electra Garcia. “The answer can be quite complicated, because it really depends on what you’re looking for – we have absolutely everything here!" Electra grew up in Ibiza, so her insider knowledge is indispensable when it comes to finding those one-off boutiques or relatively unknown – but awesome – local designers. In order to keep things simple, her best tip for shopaholics is to book a driver for the day and take a guided shopping tour. “There are amazing places all over the island, and with a driver, you avoid getting lost, you don’t have to worry about looking for parking and you’ve also got a place to store all your purchases while you keep shopping." First stop has to be the runway-ready big names at the new Ibiza Marina designer district. Every year sees a heavyweight pop-up store such as Stella McCartney or Dior, and this year a new crop of year-round boutiques including Dolce & Gabbana, Bulgari, Hublot, Ermanno Scervino and TAG Heuer have arrived – because, you know, there’s never a bad time to invest in a new watch. Ibiza holidays are known to be about extravagance and glamour, and strolling through Ibiza Marina with a few logo-emblazoned bags over your arms and the sound of yachts tinkering in the background will inspire an even brighter vacation. Drop your purchases off with the driver and then head towards Marina Botafoch (it’s just a few minutes up the road, but why walk?), where you can pick up edgy men’s surfwear at Sundek, island-made perfumes at Campos de Ibiza and the perfect boho beach kaftan at Dora Herbst.

For shoppers, Ibiza town can be split into three distinct sections. The old town, the port and Vara de Rey. There are a plethora of cute boutiques in the old town and a wander down those romantic cobbled lanes reveals some of the most gorgeous souvenirs, handicrafts and gifts to take home. Make sure you spend some time in Annie’s for top-quality vintage and shiny party frocks before passing by LOEWE for a luxury handbag update. Just below the imposing castle walls are the whitewashed stores of the port area. These winding lanes are filled with some of Ibiza most iconic stores. Stop in at reVOLVER for club-ready pieces by the likes of Thom Krom, Helmut Lang, Comme des Garçons, Kenzo and DRKSHDW, and BB’s Temple for all your party girl needs. 

Emonk Ibiza is the place to stock up on those signature Ibiza boho chic accessories including colourfully embroidered espadrille slides and feather hair extensions. Marney & Me crosses edgy with ethnic in its unique Scandi-inspired collection that’s perfect for beach to dinner to club crossovers. P.A.R.O.S.H dials up the elegance factor with five-star gowns in luscious fabrics, and don’t forget to look down as they’ve got a beautiful range of handcrafted shoes lining the floor beneath the rails. In this area, you’ll also find Antik Batik, which has been informing and transforming island style for almost 20 years. Stocked with clothing, shoes and accessories for all seasons there’s a distinctly French vibe with just a touch of bohemian in the selection, and round the corner Hanamer is the brainchild of Israeli fashionista Shiran Dascal and is stocked with personally vetted items she has picked up on her travels.

Next stop is the newly pedestrianised Vara de Rey – a boulevard of shopping perfection. Grab a classic Ibiza basket and a hand-woven hat at the delightful Sombreria Bonet. Capture that classic white cotton Ad Lib Ibiza look at Charo Ruiz and gorgeous knitwear at Beatrice San Francisco. The brand new Sephora is standing by for any makeup needs (every holiday deserves a new shade of lip gloss). Yonkie Corner stocks all of your classic sneaker needs (one can never have too many Stan Smiths), and just behind Vara de Rey, your teens and tweens will be more than satisfied to visit some of their favourite chain stores. Mango, Zara, Stradivarius, Pinkie and Pull & Bear are just a few to start with while mum should stop by designer haven Mayurka for their beautifully curated selection of Marni, Valentino, Zadig & Voltaire, Michael Kors and Isabel Marant pieces, to name just a handful. 

Further afield, your driver will swing past Ibiza Code on the way to Santa Eulalia. Set in an ancient farmhouse, this divine boutique is a cavern of women’s and men’s clothing and accessories with a particularly excellent collection of bags. Further along the highway stop in at Cocoq for decorative homewares, art and fashion accessories – it’s like a warehouse of heavenly Ibiza style. Before you hit the centre of the island and the quaint village of Santa Gertrudis, make a detour to La Galeria Elefante – filled to the brim with one-off dresses designed by owner Victoria Durrer-Gasse, unique homewares, beautiful jewellery and so much more. Down the road is SLUIZ, which is a Wonkaland of joy stocked with quirky homewares and an eclectic collection of women’s and men’s fashion. "La Galeria Elefante and SLUIZ are like destinations unto themselves," says Electra of the two concept stores she recommends to every man, woman and child. Even if you don’t live in Ibiza, it’s difficult to resist SLUIZ’s one-off vintage furniture so make good use of their global shipping service and throw in some cushions, candles and crockery.

Within the streets of Santa Gertrudis, you’ll find Es Cucons La Tienda for homewares, clothing and a cool corner room full of kids’ toys, should they be bored of the ones they packed. There’s also the new kid on the block, Numero 74 L’Atelier, which is part boutique, part café and part creative space. Nino D’Agata is a goldsmith producing some of the most exquisite jewellery in Ibiza – his collection has a distinctive Phoenician feel with deep golds and bright stones. Further north, you’ll find World Family – famous for intricate handmade boots and bags, which have become emblematic of island chic. North of Santa Gertrudis is the artisan heart of the island, San Miguel. This area is home to craftspeople from ceramicists to potters, including jeweller Natasha Collis who has her workshop and boutique here. Her creations are inspired by Ibiza's natural world and are delicately sophisticated. Nearby is Dario Bome, who specialise in handmade leather goods. 

Of course, you must not miss Ibiza’s beach boutiques, which can always be conveniently browsed before, during or after eating. El Chiringuito, BEACHOUSE, Aiyanna Ibiza, Blue Marlin, and Atzaró Beach all house exclusive shops offering that classic Ibiza style. Lastly, don't be afraid if your eyes have been bigger than your suitcase on your shopping trips in Ibiza. "We've definitely seen this before," says Electra. "All of a sudden, your luggage doesn't zip up and you don't have an extra suitcase to fly home with. Just leave it with us – we can arrange shipping to wherever you want to go."
